The Kansas City Artists Coalition will be hosting the Lighton International Artists Exchange Program (LIAEP) Panel Saturday, October 22, 2011 from 11am to 1pm. This is an opportunity for artists and art enthusiasts to learn about international residencies and working abroad. The panel will host Saul Becker, Miguel Rivera and, Lighton founder, Linda Lighton. Both Becker and Rivera have recently participated in international residencies with aid from the Lighton Fund. Lighton herself has also returned from a residency and will be discussing her work abroad as well as the Lighton International Exchange Program.

SAUL BECKER - As an artists-in-residence, Becker interacted with 17 other international artists on a 125' sailboat en route to the Arctic Circle. During the his travels, Becker and the others were able to foster an incredible exchange of ideas and interests in relation to what was occurring around them. Becker created a body of paintings, drawing and large-scale watercolors from photographs and sketches that he produced during the expedition.

MIGUEL RIVERA - Participating in the acclaimed PROYECTO'ACE program in Buenos Aires, Argentina this summer, Rivera had a remarkable opportunity to compare the art practices in another Latin American country with a different cultural experience than his native home, Mexico. At ACE, Rivera also had the fortune to forge a relationship with Argentinean artist and ACE founder Alicia Candiani. Through this connection, Rivera was instrumental in arranging Candiani's residency here at KCAC.

LINDA LIGHTON - LIAEP founder and international acclaimed ceramic artists will be joining the above artists to discuss her most recent residency in Turkey. Lighton attended the Andadalu University in Eskisihir, Turkey for an International China Painting symposium. She will answer questions about working abroad as well as the Lighton International Exchange Program.
