MALLIN AND CHARNO GALLERIES
Proposals are due annually on September 15
The Kansas City Artists Coalition accepts proposals for the Mallin and Jacqueline B. Charno Galleries on September 15 of every year. KCAC produces 7-8 exhibitions in each of the two galleries that are curated by its Exhibition Committee, from its annual call for artists. The Mallin Gallery is a loft type gallery with hardwood floors, track lighting and storefront windows with blinds. The square footage is 1420, ceiling height is 12 feet, and the linear measurement of walls used for hanging is 109 feet. The lighting is suspended approximately 9-½ from the floor in three banks, which run the length of the gallery East to West. The Jacqueline B. Charno Gallery is immediately accessible through the Mallin Gallery. The gallery has the same hardwood floors and track lighting as the Mallin Gallery. The square footage is 690 feet, ceiling height is 12 feet and the linear measurement of walls used for hanging is 88 feet. The lighting is suspended approximately 9-½ feet from the floor in three banks, which run the length of the gallery East to West. KCAC carries Fine Art Insurance, however, artists must insure their work to and from the gallery. KCAC takes a 30% commission on works sold.
The Exhibition Committee makes decisions to award solo, two-person or group exhibits. In addition, the committee reserves the right to place the exhibits in the gallery deemed most appropriate. Please let KCAC know about any scheduling conflicts you might have in your proposal. Artists will be notified after the first of the year as to the committee’s decisions. All media is accepted. Work must have been completed in the past two years. Open to all artists, with a special interest in artists from the Midwest. Artists of color are also encouraged to apply.
To be considered, please submit: visual documentation (url and/or 20 digital images on CD, both MAC and PC compatible); inventory sheet (list of artworks submitted with thumbnail images including information about the media, size, date of completion, and price); artist statement; resume; support materials (reviews, catalogs, etc.); and a large self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of your materials (no SASE, no return of materials). Reasonable care will be taken of materials submitted, however, KCAC will not assume responsibility for loss or damage to materials while in our possession. Complete proposals are due September 15 of every year.

UNDERGROUND

The Kansas City Artists Coalition accepts proposals for the Underground on November 1 of every year. Underground is KCAC’s exclusive member’s only gallery. It is located in Mel’s ArtSpace and is accessible through the Mallin Gallery. The gallery’s large “L” shaped room has approximately 1, 065 square feet, the linear measurement of walls used for hanging is 140 feet and the ceiling height is 102 inches. The lighting is attached to beams in the ceiling; the floor is painted cement and entry doors measure 80 x 36 inches. KCAC takes a 30% commission on works sold.

RE:MEMBERS EXHIBITION

The Re:Members Exhibition is a juried competition open to artists that are current members of the Kansas City Artists Coalition.
ELIGIBILITY: Open to artists who are current members of the Kansas City Artists Coalition. Entries must be original work, completed in the last two years and not previously shown in The Artists Coalition's Galleries.
INSURANCE: The Artists Coalition provides insurance for the exhibition. Artists are responsible for providing their own insurance on works during shipment.
MEDIA AND SPECIFICATIONS: All media is eligible. Work requiring special installation (including large or heavy works) will be accepted only if the artist is available to install the work on the specified date. Video artists can submit still images online and also mail a DVD to the Artists Coalition. If accepted, video artists must provide display equipment for the duration of the exhibition.
SALES: The Artists Coalition will take 30% commission on work sold from the exhibition. Price listed on Entry should include the commission and frame, if applicable. If the artwork is not for sale indicate NFS and the appraised insurance value on the entry form.

Juror
Colby Smith, Director, The Studios, Inc. Colby K Smith received his B.F.A. from Emporia State University, and his M.F.A. from Southern University of Illinois at Carbondale. Smith taught at both Emporia State University and Southern University of Illinois before relocating to Kansas City, Missouri, in 2002. In 2003 he opened Gallery HQ, an alternative contemporary art space that occupied two locations in the West Bottoms and in the Crossroads Gallery District. In 2004, Smith closed Gallery HQ to dedicate his time and energy to developing The Studios Inc, where he currently serves as Director, and to focus on his career as a professional artist.
Smith continues to create and exhibit multi-media work that has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions throughout the Midwest. In Kansas City he has exhibited at Millennic Glass, The Late Show, Society for Contemporary Photography, and The Studios Inc Exhibition Space. His work was also recently featured in the book Glass Art International, and it has been reviewed nationally and regionally in publications such as Sculpture and Review.
Awards
The Leigh Rosenberg Earnest Memorial Fund will award a total of $500 in scholarship/s.
Eligibility
Open to currently enrolled undergraduate college students in Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas. Missouri dividing line is N-S Hwy 63. Kansas dividing line is N-S Hwy 81. Schools in towns where these highways run through are eligible. { click here for map }
Media and Specifications
Students may enter 1-3 artworks. All media is eligible. Entries must be original work, completed in the last two years and not previously shown in KCAC Galleries. 2-D work must be framed and wired for installation; works on paper should be framed under plexiglas. Sculpture must not weigh over 150 lbs. If accepted, video artists must provide display equipment for the duration of the exhibition.

The Artists Coalition is now using CaFÉ at www.CallForEntry.org for show entries. The site will walk you through Image Preparation and the Application Form. Begin your image prep right away, you can save your portfolio and return to it at anytime.
To Complete your registration you will need….
Image/s. Use good quality image/s (showing just the artwork, NO background); prepare the images according to the specifications at CaFé.
Register Online at www.CallForEntry.org. You can save your application and return to it until you complete it and submit it. There is no entry fee.
Acceptance
Artists whose works are accepted will be notified beginning March 21, 2012. Notices will be made via the e-mail you use for your Café Registration; however, we must also have a telephone number where you can be reached on this date. KCAC reserves the right to reproduce accepted works for publicity, documentation and promotion of the exhibition. Students should not submit work needed for scholarship exhibitions.
Delivery and Return of Work
Works must be hand delivered to Kansas City Artists Coalition on Saturday, April 6-7 between 11-4 p.m. Work must be picked up Saturday, April 28 between 11-4 p.m. If works are not picked up on April 28th, KCAC will dispose of the work(s) in anyway it sees fit without liability or further notice to the artist or lender.
Sales
KCAC will take 30% commission on work sold from the exhibition. Price submitted must include KCAC commission and frame, if applicable.
Liability and Agreement
KCAC provides insurance for the exhibition.

Juror
Dr. Patricia McDonnell, Director, Ulrich Museum of Art, Wichita State University, Wichita, Kansas. McDonnell has worked in art museums for 30 years. She opened new museum facilities at Tacoma Art Museum (with architect Antoine Pedock) and the Weisman Art Museaum, University of Minnesota (with architect Frank Gehry), and led curatorial programs to build increased audience. McDonnell is a widely published scholar, a specialist on painter Marsden Hartley, and curated over 80 exhibitions on a range of modern and contemporary art subjects.
Catalog
The Artists Coalition will publish an illustrated catalog with an essay by Dr. McDonnell. A copy will be sent to all entrants. Catalogs will be distributed to contemporary art curators and gallery directors nationally.
Awards
$2000 in cash prizes. Dr. McDonnell will select award-winning artists. Artists who have received 2 or more awards may enter the exhibition, but are not eligible for an award.
Eligibility
Open to artists who are current residents of Missouri, Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Arkansas or Oklahoma. Entries must be original work, completed in the last two years and not previously shown in The Artists Coalition’s Galleries.
Media and Specifications
All media is eligible. Work requiring special installation (including large or heavy works) will be accepted ONLY IF the artist is available to install the work June 29.
Video artists submit still images online and mail a DVD to: RMRE, Kansas City Artists Coalition, 201 Wyandotte, Kansas City, MO 64105. Entries are due on May 20; this is NOT a postmark date. If accepted, video artists may be required to provide display equipment for the duration of the exhibition.

SHIPPING ACCCEPTED WORKS. Artists pay shipping to and from the Artists Coalition Gallery. Accepted works must be shipped in substantial reusable packing cartons with repacking instructions. Enclose a check for return shipping made payable to the Artists Coalition: include insurance amount (if any) and preferred carrier with check. Shipped work will be returned August 22-26.
HAND DELIVERY Of ACCEPTED WORKS. Works may be hand delivered June 22-25 between 11am and 4pm. Hand delivered work must be picked up August 29 between 3-5pm. or August 20, 11am-4pm.
RETURN OF WORKS. If return shipment cannot be completed, or if works are sent without return shipping provided for, or if hand delivered works are not picked up by August 20, the Artists Coalition will dispose of the work(s) in any way it sees fit without liability or further notice to the artist or lender,

Kansas City Artists Coalition's
River Market Regional Exhibition is just one of many programs and services the Artists Coalition provides for artists and the community. In our three galleries we produce approximately twenty-one exhibitions annually of work by emerging and mid-career artists. Other projects include: the Lighton International Artists Exchange Program and Money for Artists Promotion grants; Artists Studios:KC; and www.kansascityartistscoalition.org.
