About this month’s juror

Jamel Robinson is a multidisciplinary artist working in the mediums of abstract expressionist painting, assemblage, sculpture, installation, poetry, and performance. His work serves as a timestamp of the experiences shaping his life and creative processes, grounding itself in the use of materials and themes associated with the historic and present grief surrounding the Black experience in America.

Robinson was celebrated in The New York Times and CBS News for his solo exhibition, "Beauty from Ashes," at the Hudson River Museum in New York. His work has been acquired for the permanent collections at the Hudson River Museum in New York and the Bunker Artspace Museum in West Palm Beach.

Jamel lives and works in Harlem, New York, where he was born and raised.
