Call to Artists - Lexington, MO Bicentennial Sculpture

  • Kansas City Artists Coalition 3200 Gillham Road Kansas City US (map)

Lexington, Mo. Community Betterment Association is seeking submissions for an outside sculpture to be placed in downtown Lexington commemorating the 200 year anniversary (Bi-Centennial) of its history and look to the future. The funding is as a result of community-wide donations to showcase the Bi-Centennial celebration. Lexington Community Betterment Association (L.C.B.A.), which is a 40-year old organization, is the vehicle for the funding.

The sculpture must be durable, need little maintenance, be pleasing to the eye and have discernable meaning for the town. It will be outside so subject to all kinds of weather and temperatures. At this point the projected approximate height would be 5-8 feet. It should be set up on a foundation to facilitate lawn-mowing at the placement site. The contract is for up to $6,000. We would like the artist there to supervise placement but we should be able to provide the physical support. The sculpture will be on the lawn of Lexington City Hall at 919 Franklin in Lexington (shown below).

The Lexington Tourism website is Visitlexingtonmo.com for some orientation of the town’s history for the project.

There will be a selection committee to evaluate the proposals.
